The kind of shop where a bookseller who has read the thing presses it into your hands, and an hour disappears before you notice.
We started with London and we're adding cities as we get to them. Every listing is chosen by hand and checked before it appears — no chains, no algorithm, no copy-pasted round-ups pointing you at shops that closed years ago.
How a shop earns its place

Why “bouquiner”?
bouquiner is a French verb, gently informal — to read for the pleasure of it, and to browse and rummage through books, the way you might along the bouquinistes' stalls by the Seine. It is the feeling this whole guide is built around: an unhurried afternoon, nose in a book, an hour happily lost among the shelves.
